Dear Eric Godwin, Thank you for taking the time to take part in this interview to let our community know about Bitspawn. Can you introduce us briefly? What’s your story that goes as far back as you wish?
I started full-time with blockchain and crypto in 2016, worked as a blockchain consultant during the ICO craze and then worked on fintech products for crypto assets in 2018. I am a lifelong gamer and a former competitive gamer for titles like Call of Duty and Halo
Why did you get into the cryptocurrency industry and where do you think the industry will be in 5–10 years?
I think crypto will complement many of the traditional fintech mainstream services and areas like gaming will be the main drivers for adoption. Many of the projects that exist today will not hit the market in 5–10 years because there is too much competition and saturation in areas like DeFi. Gaming is not saturated in the blockchain space and there is plenty of room for projects to grow.
That’s great. Now, can you give us an introduction to Bitspawn and its history?
In 2019 I got the idea for Bitspawn. As my background as a lifelong gamer and former competitive gamer in the mid-2000s and early 2010s, I have used many solutions and seen a way for blockchain to solve many problems in the ecosystem. In 2020 we built the beta platform for Bitspawn on a private Ethereum network and expanded it to over 10,000 registered users. At the beginning of 2021, we started planning our native blockchain protocol and the introduction of the network token at the end of the second quarter of 2021.
How did you start Bitspawn and why? Did you see an opportunity early on to fill a market niche?
My experience as a gamer has allowed me to see all of the problem areas in gaming and the possible solutions that blockchain could offer. With Bitspawn we want to support gamers with the tools and functions we provide.
What have been the biggest challenges for you and Bitspawn since the start of the project?
User adoption and intrusion into the traditional video game industry.
Roger that. What has been your greatest success so far and what has been the greatest failure or setback, personally or in the company’s history?
Reached a milestone of 10,000 users and incorporated it into some of the top game titles. Our biggest mistake so far has been that we didn’t focus on the user experience and the front end early enough, but we fixed this issue. The thing about crypto and its lack of mainstream adoption is due to the lack of usability for newbies.
What’s the next step for Bitspawn in the next 1-2 years?
Start our native protocol on solana, create decentralized gaming communities supported by crypto and functions like Defi and Nfts.
