Fox joins the NFT fray and wants to start an animation series made with blockchain technology
New York-based television network Fox is a popular company that has been in business for over 34 years. The broadcaster operates a variety of entertainment channels including popular shows such as The Simpsons, Undeclared, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Glee, Nip / Tuck, and Party of Five. and more.
This week, Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter and stated that the company is building a subsidiary called Blockchain Creative Labs. The new company aims to offer an entertainment class where “art meets technology”.
Collier gave the Hollywood Reporter a quick recap on how the company’s new blockchain venture intends to combine art and technology.
“Not to go too far today, but as an ad-supported, artist-centric and animation-obsessed company, Fox will take advertisers into the world of blockchain-based tokens, including NFTs,” said Fox CEO.
Daniel Harmon returns with ‘Krapopolis’
Collier also spoke about the project with Daniel Harmon, the American writer, producer, actor and comedian who co-created the show “Rick and Morty” with Justin Roiland.
The Fox CEO noted that Harmon is working on another television series called “Krapopolis,” which “focuses on a flawed family of people, gods, and monsters trying to run one of the first cities in the world without killing each other “. The new show will be designed with blockchain technology and will be the first television series to do so, emphasizes Collier.
“Dan’s series, titled Krapopolis, will be the first to be fully curated on the blockchain,” said Collier during his interview. “And just like we do for our own animation, we also help your brands connect directly with fans and enthusiasts via NFTs. With and for you, Fox helps art, brands and technology meet. Additionally, Harmon hasn’t created a new show since 2013 since they co-created the animated series ‘Rick and Morty’ with Roiland.
Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox Entertainment, welcomes Harmon’s return.
“Let Dan Harmon translate the myth of early Greek civilization into a remarkably sharp commentary on politics, celebrity, and popular culture today,” noted Thorn.
